As you might know, ZImbabwe is a landlocked country. Mozambique is situated to the east of Zimbabwe. The Portuguese colonized the Island of Mozambique in the early 16th century and by 1530, had started to move inland. The Portuguese kitchen therefore became widespread in Mozambique and being so near to Zimbabwe, also became important in Zimbabwe during the colonization.
The most famous of the Portuguese dishes served in Zimbabwe in my opinion was the peri-peri chicken. It is also something that can be served freshly as chickens abound in Zimbabwe.
For some reason, it is hard to find other places in the world that serve it as well as it is served in Zimbabwe, especially in Harare. If you are there, look for the local restaurants offering this dish as it is worth the experience.
