Collecting Shona Stone Sculptures in Zimbabwe
In 2013, I visited Victoria Falls - Mosi-oa-Tunya with my family and my father's interest in shona stone carvings led me to a local market where I met Thandanani who was from Hwange. I purchased two small carvings from him and we became good friends. Since then, I have supported Thandanani and his family in any way I can.
Invitation to visit Hwange
In 2015, Thandanani invited me to visit his ""Home"" in Hwange. I accepted the invitation and arrived in Zimbabwe on a beautiful sunny day in June. Thandanani picked me up and brought me by bus to Hwange.
Living Like a Local
During my two-month stay, I was treated with great hospitality and kindness by Thandanani's family and the locals. I stayed in a Kraal and ate the same diet as the locals. Despite the unfamiliar cuisine, my stomach had no problems. I learned that living like a local allows you to experience things you could never have as a normal tourist.

""Great Zimbabwe"" and Bulawayo
I visited ""Great Zimbabwe"" over Bulawayo and learned that Zimbabwe can get quite cold in winter. Despite the cold, the trip was worth it as I got to experience the culture and history of the country.
The Zambezi
Visit the Zambezi River and enjoy the wonderful sunsets, the Hippos and the great fishing. Watch out for crocodiles!
